Thematic areas

The section is not completely completed, the time is short, the manpower is missing; we do what we can. We apologize for the discomfort

Lucca Comics & Games is such a big event that has had to divide its stand for thematic areas! The great thematic areas of Comics, Games, Junior, Music & Cosplay, JapanTown, Movie identify the 6 theme themes of the fair – comics from around the world new and old gadgets, games of any type and genres and literature related to game or fantasy, music and stage cosplay, Japan and gadgets, Cinema and Theater.

As you can see, the themes they are touched are really huge and they include 700 booths, a stage, 200 meeting and conference programs, etc. Just enough to attract an average of 400,000 people a year in 4 days.

To give you a general idea of thematic areas and their main sections we have created a map, a table and below detailed explanations.

panini aree editori lucca comicsComics and Fiction Publishers

The Editorial Area, which is historically housed in Piazza Napoleone, is one of the largest areas in which Italian Cartoon Publishers are concentrated. Not only are there high-ranking publishers such as Bonelli and Panini, but also less well-known publishers who deal with both comic and narrative in general. Often booths offer their range of commercial products with the ability to get numbers issued many months before (so even to complete their series or buy full stories). In addition, there will be products launched exclusively for the fair, tables and illustrations with an exclusive theme for visitors who will be able to buy them and post it to the guest authors of the publishing houses. The publisher area is located in a large stand that covers the whole square, but since 2014 some large houses are positioned in detached independent pavilions.

Self-AreaSelf Area (artisti autoprodotti)

Self Area is the space that Lucca C & G dedicates to self-produced comics. An exhibition and performative space dedicated to those realities who make their free comics free from the brakes set by the mainstream market to give voice to those who have chosen to create their own spaces and circuits to express themselves. A space that hosts emerging authors and established realities, all shared by believing in the potentialities of the comic book and its infinite communications, cultural and multimedia branches. The Self Area is usually located in Piazza San Romano, near the Comics Artists Area, the Auditorium San Romano, and the Cartoon Museum.

Lucca Comics & Games responds to a strong demand from the public and industry professionals to further enhance the true protagonists of the world of ninth art. The Comics Artists Area is located in Piazza San Romano, a stone’s throw from the Self Area, by the prestigious Auditorium of San Romano.

At the end of September will be presented the list of authors present in the pavilion and the meeting times.

Fumetterie e Gadgeterie

comics gadget

The cartoon area is located along Corso Giuseppe Garibaldi in a series of pavilions occupying the whole street. In this area there are cartoons from all over Italy selling new volumes, old volumes and even the used ones. It’s a great place to buy volumes that have been released for a while and can be sold out in the stand of publishers.

The Gadget area is instead located in Piazza Antelminelli and hosts several stands with various gadgets. You can find different types, from vintage gadgets to modern gadgets, to many types of objects. It is really difficult to find the type of offer, as each year the stands vary and often move around the area.

Tavole originali e Collezioni

The area of original Tables and collections is a real treat for such collectors. Not only will you be able to take a look at the physical drawings of great designers (and I recommend it to the inspirational comic strips), but you can buy them for modest 200 € up prices. Obviously every table and every author has its prices, but here we are not joking! Let’s talk about real works of art. Most of the boards are American or European productions, but of course everything depends on the stands that will be present at the fair.

The collection area may look like the grandfather’s grandchild of baby comics that has long left them on the shelves, but unlike an attic, here the old volumes are well-treated and cared for to be in good shape before possible buyers. The passion for collecting is always alive and in this classic pavilion in Piazza Napoleone or Piazza Giglio.

Indipendence Bay  –  Area AutoProduzioni

lucca comics indipendence bay area autoproduzioneAs of 2000, Indipendence Bay is the space Lucca Games reserves for self-producers, associations and fanzines. Everything started with Angela Porazzi who years ago revolutionized the world of autoproducers by inventing the Self-Producing Area, a traveling circus that is going to show at the event. In this area you will meet all these authors who create, design, produce their board games; in many cases excellent materials for teachers, educators, parents who love playing with their children. Here you can play together with these game artists, see how a game comes from the idea to the printed box. Because the Self-Product Area is not just a showcase to showcase its products, but also a lab to learn how to make its own game and a traveling forum that connects authors, illustrators, players, event organizers, allowing exchanging ideas , contacts, tips and experiences.

The Music & Cosplay section includes all the initiatives regarding music and entertainment events and cosplayer events. The section focuses on the Palco events where the Cosplay Race takes place each year and numerous musical performances. But initiatives are not limited to this, since many events have been added since 2014, including the new “Nippon World Karaoke Grand Prix” contest where participants will compete with Karaoke jokes on the new Japan Town Hall. Or the recent musical contest “Cartoon Music Contest” where new music giants can get a publication.

Stage Events

palco

The event stage at Lucca Comics & Games has been present for several years and has become an almost staggering attraction. It is of great size and represents the theme area dedicated to Music and Cosplay; all day long concerts, little shows and a lot of cosplay are happening: in fact, the famous cosplay contest takes place on this stage on Saturdays and Sundays. The enrolled are so many that in recent years have had to split the race in two days. There are also some Lucca comics prizes awarded.

Although the stage was already in a more central area, it has been present for some years at the Baluardo San Paolino, where the space is very large and large speakers allow you to listen concerts even a kilometer away, but at moments of great success you might not find a corner to move anymore. Like many of Lucca Comics events, the stage show is completely free and free from any break. So when you want to watch a cosplay parade of several hours, or do you like to pamper your partner with some beautiful anime or Jpop songs; This is the right place.

La Gara di Cosplay

Lucca C&G è famosa per la sua gara di Cosplay che ogni anno tiene attaccato al palco milioni di appassionati.

DSC2517-1024x678

For those who do not know the term cosplay is a contraction of the English words “costume” and “play”, which describe the hobby of disguising themselves as their favorite character. A true passion born in Japan and officially launched in Italy at the very first official fair event takes place in Lucca comics in the far post 1997. Since 2006, the fair has been moved from the exhibition area to the city’s cosplay parade has increased its activities by transforming a two-hour parade into a split event in 2 days to give space to all applicants, which in 2005 already had 3500 entries.

It takes place in two days of greater affluence: on Saturdays and Sundays. The event is organized by the Flashgordon association which manages the registration and the running. The contest is aimed at individuals, couples or entire groups and the winners have the chance to participate in the European Cosplay Gathering, a prestigious cosplayer contest held during the Japan Expo in Paris. Participants can interpret the cosplay of characters from comics, cartoons, video games, movies or shows, historical or mythological figures, or characters of Japanese music. No international music characters or original costumes are allowed.

Nippon World Karaoke Grand Prix

Another interesting initiative starting in 2014 is the Nippon World Karaoke Grand Prix, which thanks to DAM, the number one karaoke company in Japan and the e-talentbank, will stage Lucca Comicws & Games. It is a karaoke designed for fans of all kinds of Japanese music, including a repertoire of over 170,000 songs, with a great peculiarity compared to classic karaoke: it will not be the classic jury of experts to select the best rumors but a special tool that will evaluate and reward the best singing performances!

The event will take place in several stages including the first such as “Cinecittà World’s Music & Comics powered by Lucca Comics & Games” in Rome, and the second will be directed directly at Lucca Comics on Japan Town’s “Sala Show” stage where it will be a first race between Thursday and Friday to select the 8 finalists; all will end on Sunday with the final on the Lucca C & G Official Events Stage.

All Nippon World Karaoke Grand Prix participants may attend all those who have already reached the age of the event, or minors accompanied by a parent or a parent. This is a unique opportunity for the many talented and talented Japanese musicians who will be able to test their preparation with this innovative canoral selection system, but also a special opportunity for anyone who just wants to have fun.

Teatro Comics

teatro-comics-luoghiLucca Comics & Games has been hosting theater events for some years now. For example, read by dubbing of the most important fantasy novels, or Japanese theatrical shows inspired by the manga style, then there are the singing comics that tell in a style all of them and much more. The theatrical section is relatively small and with few events, however, which best complement the already large program of the fair. Great guests like Immanuel Casto and Romina Falconi present live concerts with their own songs and have sparkling choreography to entertain the audience; while for movie enthusiasts, there will be a chance to get to know and reveal beautiful and famous voices of Italian dubbing.

set armato cosplayFun for the streets, here is Street & Fun’s cosplay soul, the series of appointments along the ever-moving city streets: street bands, flash mobs, dedicated shows, are some of the street activities that will be launched throughout the city. The world of cosplay does not just live in the fair only in the stage of events, but merges with the event itself. Several Cosplayer associations organize big groups for showrooms and show to many photographers hunting for a few clicks. The passion for disguise becomes so active throughout the year and also allows the different enthusiasts and cosplayers of the same group to meet and interact. Associations organizing shows and large demonstration groups are increasingly numerous and you can find them amongst the “The Citadel” booths with free admission. So if you have some passion for big stories, you can decide to join the event with a consolidated group or even try the special experience of becoming a new cosplayer association. The Planet (2014)

Villa Bottini ( Assassin’s Creed) (2014)

Palazzo Ducale  –  Area Mostre principale

lucca comics mostreThe exhibitions of Palazzo Ducale never fail: Every year they become the unmissable appointment to start counting towards Lucca Comics & Games. In fact, they are a special area that opens well before the start of the 4 day fair (around mid-October) to end with it. In the area you can find numerous exhibits divided into the different rooms of the first floor of the building. The exhibitions are mainly dedicated to the comics area, but often the illustrations also range in the games industry. For a more precise idea, you can watch this 2013 video.
In the palace are not just present art exhibitions, but on the ground floor of the building there are several conferences and meetings of Comics.
